On Nature Triumphs: A Charity Anthology of Dark Speculative Literature
Nature
Triumphs: A Charity Anthology of Dark Speculative literature had a very rocky
birth. Most of you know why. But luckily, the brave tenacity of our publisher coupled
with the courage of the editors involved made sure this wonderful book saw the
light. And I couldn’t be happier with it. A mixture of short fiction and poetry
grace these pages. The stories in there will surprise you. Hallucinogenic frog
soup. Night of the Living Dead Deer. Trees fed up with human catharsis and
taking matters into their own branches. Weed that smokes you. A yard
whose practical joke against its owner drives him to madness. A vengeful
beekeeper and his buzzing warriors. An elite group of military “Reapers” work
to rid the world of infected zombies in what becomes nothing short of a Heinlein-esque
gorefest. And then there is my tale, “A New Mom for the Bee Boy” in which an
exploited orphan with an affinity for bees becomes the downfall of a powerful
family of Satanic hedonists. These and more gems await.
They are,
in this author’s opinion, all priceless.
The pages
are graced by the likes of Ramsey Campell (who needs no introduction), prolific
crime writer JC Macek III, and the incredibly talented, world-building dark
poet Kasey Hill. It is edited by Allison Armstrong and Pixie Bruner—I don’t
know them well yet, but their stories and poems are both amazing, and they
stand as two powerful female voices in what has classically been a patriarchal literary
world. The editing process was, and you can feel this coming off the book when
you read it, done with a great deal of heart—a thing desperately needed in all
factions of not just art, but life itself. Love of plants, animals, and kindness
itself is tempered here with rip-roaring lunacy and ruthless gore. The tales
will make you laugh. They’ll make you cheer. Others will make you weep. The
beauty of this anthology is nothing less than Tiptaphrethian.
I am
honored to be a part of it, and of Dark Moon Rising Publications as regular
contributor. I can’t say enough good things about DMRP. Everyone I’ve met has
been kind, sensitive, empathic, and brilliant. They’ve given me four
anthologies to curate (!!!!), two of which are currently in the works. One is
taking its last laps to the finish line. More about those as time flies.
I will,
shortly in fact, be writing about Symptom of the Universe: A Literary Tribute
to Black Sabbath and the two abovementioned anthologies in the works, Confessions
from the Think Tank and Last Christmas: A Holiday Horror Anthology. And there
are more to be announced at a later date. Don’t worry, I’ll keep you posted.
